Why is networking important?

Networking will serve you well all your life, not just when you need to find a job. This life-long skill should become a natural part of you. You can make contacts in traditional ways at job fairs and such, but you can also make contacts by looking for opportunities in everyday conversations and interactions. Especially during this job search process, take care with your appearance even if you only plan to run to the bank and the dry cleaners. Maybe you tell the banker that you’ve just returned from studying in the U.S. and you need to set up an account as you look for a job and re-establish yourself in your home country. The banker then tells you that his father works in the Human Resources Department at a downtown company that interests you. Wouldn’t he feel more comfortable giving his father your information if you had made a good first impression on him?
